Dr. Jeff Special Highlights Vet Work During Pandemic

Television special to follow vets and techs as they cope with social distancing and animal emergencies. Watch DR. JEFF: ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET Saturday, June 13 at 10P ET.

June 12, 2020

As many businesses and institutions have come to a standstill in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of America’s busiest veterinarians continues to operate and provide his services to pet owners in need.

Dr. Jeff Young, star of Animal Planet’s DR. JEFF: ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET, never considered closing his clinic during these unprecedented times. And while Planned Pethood International has stayed opened, Dr. Jeff and his team have made significant changes to their operations to keep both people and pets safe.

Those changes will be covered in a special COVID-19-themed episode of DR. JEFF: ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET, premiering Saturday, June 13 at 10P ET.

In the episode, we will meet animals who have been brought to the Denver clinic for emergencies, including: Penny-Rose, a sweet pit bull mix puppy suffering from parvo; Kai, a dog who is in danger of losing his leg after getting hit by a car and not receiving proper treatment for nearly a day; Noir, a fluffy black cat with urinary issues; and Winter, an Australian shepherd mix suffering from an infected tooth abscess.

While these cases sound ordinary, how they are handled is anything but that. Social distancing brought forth a new process for how animals are seen and treated. Appointments begin outside the clinic, where vet techs meet the pets and pet parents to take an initial history and get started on paperwork. From there, the pets are brought inside for a physical exam and subsequent treatment. During this time, pet parents are forced to remain outside the clinic, since no one, except for staff, is allowed in.

Outside of Saturday’s episode, you can catch up with DR. JEFF: ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET and stream full episodes on Animal Planet GO. You can also visit the Dr. Jeff Facebook page and use hashtag #DrJeff on social media to keep up with the conversation. You can also follow Planned Pethood International on Facebook.
